New LMS installation - process?

It has been so many years since I did a new installation of LMS that I'm embarrassed to say that I have lost the plot.

I have a perfectly functional installation on my "music server", a FitPC2. That device is running XP, and the entire library is on the internal 750 gb drive. I decided to upgrade to a newer Fit model, the FitPC3, use an SSD for the OS, and an external drive for the music. There is greater security, and besides it's fun to fiddle. And much fiddling has been required to install the SSD and Win7, not to mention the drivers for the cool USB monitor that needs no external power.

I'm going to install the current 7.8 on the new system; I have forgotten the process for installation, especially for any necessary logins to MySB. I seldom use anything online, only occasionally tuning in a radio station or something, usually through the LMS menu items. I never stream from services. LMS is used almost exclusively to play my local music.

Is there a summary of process for a new installation? Can I recover login credentials and passwords somehow?

Is there any reason not to run the two installations concurrently, during a testing rampup?
