lms on pc

hi all

Would i be right in saying logitech media server can be run on your windows pc to serve music to other devices via network ?
i have set lms up on my windows 7 pc and tried to run squeezebox on my iphone and couldn't find player
ran squeezeplayer on my pc and my iphone saw the player and connected fine and controlled all options etc
now this is the I might be thick bit ?
I used to run xp and I'm sure when i ran the lms software before i could login with my iphone and stream my music from my windows pc to my iphone direct and listen to my tunes and radio etc on my iphone
would that be correct ? I'm so sure that's how i had it setup before ?
can someone please confirm this
