LMS on Synology DS918+ not indexing thousands of music files

Hello all,

My trusty Acer Aspire H340 would not turn on following a power outage, so I ended up buying a DS918+ last week. I've been running LMS since 2010 when I bought my first SqueezeBox Boom. Lately I had been running it on Ubuntu Server 16.04 on a separate machine, with the files stored on the H340 (which was also running 16.04). The number of music files reported was in the neighbourhood of 50,000 (not piracy; I own a lot of albums and get dozens of albums for review from record labels every week. :))

Since the DS918+ had an LMS package and seemed powerful enough to handle what I need it to do, I turned off the other machine that was running LMS before (an old but relatively powerful Dell). LMS seemed to be running fine (albeit VERY slow at scanning-damn!) until I noticed that only 30,000 songs or so were reported after the scan. I checked that all the files had been copied from my backup (yes). I tried just a rescan, no luck. Clear and rebuild library: Same results. I then fired up the Dell and gave that LMS installation the Synology as the media source. Once the scan completed, it (running on Ubuntu Server 16.04) reported the correct 50,000 or so songs. So, obviously, the problem seems to be only with LMS on the Synology.

I've checked the logs (from the interface) and can't see the scan logs complaining about anything. I thought maybe foreign characters (lots of songs in languages other than English), but none of that is reported. So I'm at a bit of a loss and I'm wondering if anyone here has run into a similar problem and/or could suggest something to look at or some setting that I may have overlooked.

The DS918+ has the stock 4Gb of RAM and resource usage (CPU and RAM) is still pretty low even while scanning, so I don't think that's an issue. It currently has two 4 Tb drives set up with RAID 1, with plenty of space to spare.

Thanks!
Michel
