I downloaded a Springsteen concert in MP3 and it played gapless in foobar2000, but there were gaps playing back on my Touch. Ok, downloaded the show again in FLAC and converted to LAME 320 myself: same result. Did some further research and found that any MP3 files sampled at 48kHz no longer play on my Squeezeboxes. Upgraded \server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread\ from LAME 3.99.5 to 3.100: no difference. Updated to current LMS 7.9.2: no difference.
Then I remembered that some weeks ago I had changed "Audio Startup Time" (Settings > Player > Audio) from zero to 0.5 sec. because some first tracks when the Touch woke up my amplifier were getting the first few notes cut off. This might be the first MP3 live show I've played since then. Reset this value to zero and everything is well again.
Lesson learned: if you adjust this setting, you very well might break gapless MP3 (and maybe 48k support, too).
