I am looking for an improved way to handle the albums stored in LMS.
Today, I have stored about 1.800 albums with more then 20.000 tracks (and still growing).
All albums are properly tagged with the exception of genre. (it is too difficult to decide in many cases.)
Even composer and orchestra is tagged for classical music.
As I grew up with vinyl, I still prefer to listen to full albums from the beginning to end.
By now, I am mostly picking the album I have decided to listen.
Sometimes I am using the features "Random Album" to explore my collection and to find something "abandond".
Sometimes I am using "Random Mix". A nice feature where I have multiple selection options.
Additionally I mark current top-top tracks under favorites which I am always cleaning up to have not more than 30 to 50 entries.
I am also using book-mark to remind the listing progress of an album when coming back to this album.
Actually, I am looking for two addtional features.
1) I would like to mark my favorite albums and only search/explore within these (like a filter).
2) I would like to maintain a few playlists with my favorite tracks to play eg at parties.
I tried the various plugins, but none seems to give me a solution.
And I have one more requirement. I am a bit reluctant to put this information into the LMS database. I am scared to loose this information when doing some technical changes. I want to be flexible to do a quick reinstallation of LMS without big data mirgration activities. Therefore the solution must either store this information as a tag or in a text file.
My ideas for a solution:
re 1) Favorite albums.
I could use Genre to mark my favorite albums. It's nice a drill-down from genre to artist to album would be possible.
Very easy the inital set-up and maintenance with foobar. Could not be maintained within LMS GUI.
re 2) Playlists.
I tried with the built-in playlist function (right botton on LMS main screen).
One problem: How to add tracks to an existing playlist with the LMS GUI? I don't get it working.
The approach to go thru the current playlist on the LMS GUI would work just fine for me.
As an alternative I could use foobar, but would have to edit the m3u-file as I am using pcb to run my LMS for listening.
Has anybody any thoughts, suggestions for my requirements?
Any good practices to share?
I have also tried the rating plugin. Nice idea. But it seems that the ratings are stored in the LMS DB and not as a tag. Is this true?
