Hi all,
I'll be the first to admit I'm trying to use the alarm functionality in a way it wasn't intended to be used, but all the same I'm curious if there's a potential cause/fix for the issue I'm seeing.
On the weekends I like to listen to a particular internet radio station much of the morning. I use that radio station as my true alarm at 7am but rather than have it time out after 90 minutes (max alarm length in settings->player->alarms) I want to keep listening to it until 10am or so. I've been getting into home automation stuff so I'm presently obsessed with "scheduling" various devices to do things. I know I could walk my lazy butt up to the player and turn it off (or use a remote) but I wanted to see if I could get it working automatically.
I know that I can modify server.prefs manually and set a 3 hour alarm duration, but a couple of issues with that:
1. It has to be manually re-edited anytime I modify anything else on the alarms page via the GUI
2. It makes ALL the alarms for that player 3 hours. I use other alarms on weekdays I don't want to be that long
So, my "great" idea was to simply create consecutive alarms, the first at 7am and the second at 8.30am for the same station. That would give me 3 hours without the drawbacks I mentioned above.
Only problem is that it doesn't work :P. The 7am alarm works fine but at 8:30 it times out as scheduled but the second alarm never starts (I assume because the player is "busy" ending the first alarm at 8:30 and misses the start time for the second?) I've tried a couple workarounds, like setting up a sync group and scheduling the 8:30 alarm on a different squeezebox (I have four of them in the house). That didn't work either--neither player in the sync group played the second alarm (these are both Booms by the way)
The only thing that I can get to work is setting the second alarm for 8:31am rather than 8:30. I will do this if I have to but it's not ideal--last Saturday it cut out right in the middle of an interview I was really interested in. I hopped up and turned the player back on manually but missed some of it in the interim.
I am using Version: 7.8.0 - 1387542508 (on Vortexbox). I am unsure if this has ever worked or if it's something that broke on 7.8.0. Anyone have any ideas about this? If it can't be fixed or would be too much trouble I certainly understand, considering alarms weren't designed to be used in this way. I do wish Squeezebox had gotten a proper scheduling module/plug-in. Ah well.
Thanks guys for keeping this ecosystem alive!
